The body does not store copper so it should be constantly available. The daily intake recommendation is 2000 micrograms (2 mg), but several studies have shown that many people are copper deficient. In copper deficiency, at a dose of 3 mg, red blood cell copper levels rise within a few months, with a significant increase after about 6 months.

Please note! Zinc interferes with copper absorption, so an additional copper supplement is needed if you use zinc for more than a month.Zinc and copper are recommended to be taken at different times of the day.

Copper is needed for white blood cell metabolism, connective tissue formation, brain and adrenal gland function. It's involved in the production of melanin, the dark pigment of the skin. Copper also contributes to the normal pigmentation of hair. Copper converts iron into a more usable form - copper deficiency can lead to anemia even when there is enough iron in the body to form red blood cells.

Good sources of copper in the diet include liver and offal, wholegrain cereals, potatoes, nuts, legumes and shellfish.
